‘About’ Articles

Apologies for not having updated this site more frequently. I got busy and distracted after the CBC in 2010, then evil spambots commandeered my site for a while (I picture them as something like JRR Tolkien’s goblins in the Father Christmas Letters, always up to no good, digging about where you can’t see them. The goblins made it so the site was listed as an attack page which meant I could not log-in for the last 6 months or more. With a great deal of help from my webmaster Josh Armstrong, I have seemingly vanquished the wee bastards and can now set to work once more.
My main initiative at the moment will be to archive some of my previously published work from assorted publications.

Brewsville is my way of saying thanks to all the brewers, brewery employees, and pub owners who extend such generosity to me. In my regular columns I find I often don’t have time to mention everything that is happening in our vibrant Cascadian beer culture. In some publications I am limited by region, as to what I can write about, this website is meant to supplement my regular columns, with what is too long to print, or falls outside of my “jurisdiction.”
Is it a “blog”? No, for one I hate the word “blog” and two I am not a “blogger.” Don’t expect daily updates, and banter in the comments section, there are many other bloggers that do that better than I. Instead I intend this as a news source, focusing on beer in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. I won’t stick exclusively to news from Cascadia, but that will be the core of Brewsville. I will cover events such as the Craft Brewers Conference, World Beer Cup, and Great American Beer Festival as well, and as I am a fan of beer, anywhere else my travels take me.

Abram Goldman-Armstrong gained an appreciation for craft beer growing up in Oregon, and began homebrewing at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, where he co- founded a homebrew club. Abram is a beer writer in Portland, Oregon, and travels regularly to breweries throughout Cascadia and beyond. His work appears regularly in Northwest Brewing News, Ale Street News, and American Brewer magazine. He was previously a beer columnist for Willamette Week and the Portland Tribune, and edits the Whipsaw, the fanzine of Portland Timbers soccer supporters.
Abram has been a BJCP National rank judge since he was 21 years of age, and has judged at competitions such as the Great American Beer Festival, the Oakanagan Fest-of-Ales, and Portland’s Spring Beer and Wine Fest. He organized the North American Organic Brewers Festival, the world’s largest organic beer festival, with 80 beers and 20,000 attendees in 2009. Abram is also a carpenter active in the deconstruction/reuse field. His work appears in several Portland brewpubs, and he recently installed a green-roof on his home.
